What Is Search Engine Marketing?

By Abraham Joseph

For those who don't know anything about it, Search Engine Marketing is basically the art of marketing products online based on the so-called keyword conversation. If that sounds rather cryptic to you, allow us to explain.

It is a fact that people use Google and other search engines to look for anything online. However, different people have different intentions when doing their search. While some people are merely looking for information, some people are actually looking for information about specific products BECAUSE they want to buy them.

Search Engine Marketing is basically about building web pages around certain keywords, making sure that the content contains exactly what the searcher is looking for.

With Google Adwords, you could have your first sale within 24 to 48 taking time difference into consideration. However, you could lose thousands of dollars before you will know how to make a passive income out of it. In other words, both methods have a learning curve to them and depending on your background, the learning curve can be very steep and expensive.

The good thing about Search Engine Marketing is that it does not cost as much as online advertising to get started. You will need to be armed with the right knowledge though on how to build your websites and making them rank on search engines (also called Search Engine Optimization or SEO).

Buyer keywords are those search terms that have a brand name in them, for example, "buy Nikon 5900" or "Nikon 5900 review". To mine for these keywords, you can go to the Google Keyword Planner or use a paid keyword tool. You could also type a brand name on Google's search bar and take note of the suggested keywords. This can be a real life-saver.
