Guide To Hiring A Web Design Professional

By Kenny Marcum

An official website is a great way to market an event, organization or business. Like any other marketing tool, an official website requires an investment of money, time or both. A person can put together a website herself or contract with a web design professional.

A quality website takes time to plan. Figure out how big of a website is needed. The need for one entity may simply call for one web page. Some other entity may require a website that has multiple pages and graphics.

The key to building a quality website is having good content. The content should convey to readers the most important information about a event, business or organization. Supplemental and filler content is a good idea to have. Have all or most content ready before looking for a designer.

You can find a skilled designer online. A good place to start your search is a general classifieds website. An additional place to search is freelance exchange sites.

There are also several ways to find a designer offline. Visit a local community college and place an advertisement on a bulletin board in a building where computer classes are held. Permission may be needed to do so. In addition, ask someone that have website up if she can give you the contact information of her designer.

Whether a designer is an established professional or not, he should have a portfolio. Ask for links to sites that prospective contractors have designed. A student should have at a minimum class projects available for viewing.

The price of a site varies. An extensive site costs more than a relatively small site. A novice or student designer may build a site free of charge in order to build her portfolio. A more established web design professional may have packages that include among other things updates and hosting.
